The Gordon Bubble... Bigger than We Thought...

We had a joke at Gordon College my Alma Mater that we lived in the "Gordon Bubble."  That we were all contained to a very small pocket in the North Shore, and that nothing else happened outside of that space.

Well.... let me tell you all what happened this week!  The bubble has popped.... or expanded to VA Beach.

I went to Starbucks, because, well lets face it, I love coffee.  The smells, the tastes, the way it feels in the cup in my hands....I could go on and on.  I was in need of a little java fix to say the least.  So I went to the closest sbux to my new workplace and walked in.

Of course, I scanned the cafe, not quite sure why really, other than this is a habit i picked up whilst going to the sbux's back home to see how many people I would know there.  Obviously there is NO WAY that I would know anyone here.  Chris is traveling, Liz and Emily live in Norfolk and my roommate was already at school.

Well, wouldn't you all be as surprised as me when a woman sitting to my right looked familiar.  This could not be!  It must be someones doppelganger from home, for I have been seeing those EVERYWHERE!  I didn't think twice, except that she kept looking at me as well.  We played the whole look for 10 seconds and pretend like you aren't really staring game when I finally put my big girl panties on and walked up to her table.  I looked at her and said, "I feel like I know you."  She replied, "You went to Gordon didn't you?"

Yes, I DID go to Gordon!  She and I were a year apart at the good ol' GC and were both Sociology majors!  Go team :)  She then asked me what I was doing down here, so I explained to her how I just moved down.  The next words out of her mouth were like a sweet precious gift "Do you need a friend?"

So, Trista and I are going to get breakfast tomorrow morning!  She has lived here for 3 years, is a real estate agent AND is married to a Navy Seal.

The Lord is fun.  And the bubble is officially bigger than I thought.

A week of Gratitude.

The view from Chic's Beach - there is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge!

Here are a list of gratitudes for the week:
  • Meeting all of the patients at Alive Chiropractic this week.
  • Having dinner with my new boss Dr Jason, his wife Cassie and their two sweet boys Bryce and Grant - it was such a gift to be welcomed into their home.
  • Not wearing a coat yet in January.  Hello sunshine!
  • Going to the Organic Food Depot...can we say heaven?  It is filled with so many of my favorite things, almond and coconut flour, almond butters, raw nuts, organic fruit and veggies, kombucha, pro bars, and grass fed beef!  yay!
  • Having two girls nights!  I am so blessed to have two new friends Liz and Emily.  What a gift to have the Lord bring two incredible women into my life so soon!  We - got drinks at HK (hells kitchen), went in the hot tub at the boys house (the boys would have joined us, but they are off in the woods training last week and this coming week.) went for a 5 mile walk along the Virginia Beach boardwalk, saw an Admirals Hockey Game, made dinner....so much fun.
  • Going to church choir rehearsal.  The people at my new church as so welcoming, it has already felt like home.
  • Feeling like I know where I am going while driving!  yay for not getting lost!  Aaaaaaaand, I have even gone without my GPS!
  • I'm grateful for the phone, to keep me connected to everyone up North, and also Chris while he is away training.
  • Finally finishing my bedroom.  It's so cozy, it reminds me of the 722.
  • Having a washer and dryer in my apt!  This is a first for me :)
  • Going for a run towards the Chesapeake Bay
Love You All,
Sarah

    My Sweet Room :)

Here are pictures of my new bedroom!  Finally finished!

Here is my dresser and TV.  I'm watching glee today....aaaaand I might be singing along and dancing in my room.
Here is my new bed!  (Thanks Mom and Dad!)
Bookshelf with things and people that I love!  The door to the left is the door to get into the rest of my apt, and the door to the right is my closet.
This is a better shot of my dresser.
A better shot of the wall above my bed.  The thing on the left is a window pane that I turned into a corkboard/chalkboard! You can also see the quilt that one of my amazing patients made me.  Many of them signed love notes on the back :)  How blessed am I?   I hope you all enjoyed the little tour of my new room!  I'll get pictures of the rest of the apt. soon!  Love you, Sarah

    My New Job

So sorry that I have not written yet.  I am finally feeling settled down here in the south.  I wanted to update you all on what my new job is.  As you know I was going to be working at Starbucks, but it seems like God has different plans for me. :)

I went two Wednesdays ago to find a Chiropractor (boy was i needing an adjustment after 12+ hours in the car!)  I wanted to check out this place called Alive Chiropractic, because they said they used the Gonstead Method.  I decided that I wanted to see the clinic up close in person before making an appointment.  I walked up to Randi their CA and started asking her questions about who they are and what they do.  In the process I also explaining to her how I have worked at the most amazing clinic for the last three plus years, and why it was so important to me that they practice the Gonstead Method.  Well, once I said that she looked at me and said....do you need a job?

I didn't need a job, which is what I explained to her, because I was supposed to start on the following Thursday with Starbucks (which is actually about a 25 minute drive with no traffic on their busiest road in all of Virginia Beach, go figure...a drive that I was told in the summer would take me about an hour, no fun at all.)  The funny thing about Starbucks is that they keep having to delay my start date, because of family stuff with the manager, so he wouldn't put me in their system yet...

Since I hadn't officially started, and my curiosity got the best of me I asked her what they were looking for....well wouldn't you know it, they are looking for a CA for their desk and also someone to help them with Marketing (Internet and Community)!

I looked at my Dad, who came with me, and before I could get two words in, I was introduced to Dr. Jason's wife, and two boys, and then Dr. Jason sat me down in his office and interviewed me for 30 minutes.  I have explained to him that there are no guarantees to my length of time here, because of  Chris' possible deployment, but I would make sure that he had plenty of time to replace me if necessary.

I went back in last Monday for my New Patient consultation and also my official interview, and GOT THE JOB!  I started last Tuesday at 11.

God is really funny...  I had no intention of working at another clinic, at least not for a while, but it is seeming like this is really where I need to be.  This is such an answer to prayer in so many ways, the office is closer to my apartment, I will be making more, and receive Chiropractic care as a benefit!  Which helps me with my finances a ton!  And, this will put me in a group of people who already live a healthier lifestyle, and get my weirdo ways ;)

I miss you all up north and think of you often!

FAQ's about the move to Virginia Beach

Have you ever been to VA Beach?
Ah, excellent question.  I went to Virginia Beach for the first time this month and instantly fell in love.

Who will you be living with?
I have the pleasure of living with a lovely woman named Helen.  I met her this month and she is fabulous!  The apartment the I found is two streets over from Chris' house!  (couldn't have planned that if I tried.  One point for God's provision. :) )

    Do you have a job?
Yes!  I will be re-employed at one of my favorite places.... Starbucks!  I could not be more excited!  From the few minutes I met the other Barista's at the store I will be at, they seem so friendly and delightful!  I can't wait to get to know them all better!

    When exactly are you moving?
I will be leaving the North Shore in my little Honda with Chris, my Mom and Dad (in their car) with all my stuff on the morning of January 5th.

Here's to adventuring!  If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

    Paleo Coconut Chocolate Chip Pancakes

This recipe has been adapted from Practical Paleo Living's "Eat Well, Feel Good" Cookbook by Diane Frampton.

    3 eggs beaten
    1 teaspoon coconut oil, melted
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    2 teaspoons honey
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    2 tablespoons coconut flour
    1/4 cup shredded coconut
    Chocolate chips to taste

Whisk eggs, coconut oil, vanilla and honey in a medium bowl until well blended. Set aside.

Mix cinnamon, baking soda and coconut flour in a separate bowl. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients until well blended. Fold in shredded coconut and chocolate chips.

Add additional coconut oil to a large skillet to coat pan. Add batter. Cook 3-5 minutes or until bubbles appear on top an edges are cooked. Flip pancake and cook for 1 minute longer.

Serve warm with maple sugar or honey. I personally think these are sweet enough on their own.

I would also add a mug of coffee....but that's just me. Oh and the most important part...a friend to share them with!

    A New Journey Begins....

You can take the girl out of FFC,
but you can’t take the FFC out of the girl.

Franson Family Chiropractic is a life-changing place. Whether you are a patient receiving care from these fantastic doctors or a staff member working with the phenomenal FFC Team, your life is unavoidably and remarkably touched. Forever.

Both of us came to work here straight out of college. Having experienced the miracle of Chiropractic at FFC during undergrad, we knew this place was unique. What we did not know was that there literally could not have been a better place for us to land our newly graduated feet! In just three years time, we would learn to CrossFit, eat like hunter-gatherers, maintain healthy spines and nervous systems, dress like elves, wear our clothes inside out, wake up at the crack of dawn, and celebrate all the little health victories that come while journeying toward Wellness.

There is no other place or group of people like this one, and we want you to know how much we have cherished living life-on-life with you here each and every week. From greeting you every morning to bidding you goodnight, sharing hugs at workshops, getting to know the beautiful families you are each a part of, and watching you all journey toward changing your lives for the better. You have helped us grow in so many ways – and so we are excited to share our plans for the future with you!

Sarah, after three awesome years here, is ready to spring out to have an adventure! She has been feeling a tug to take what she has learned and bring it into a new community. As she has been praying about where her adventure will take her, this North Shore girl has decided to move to the “deep South” of Virginia Beach. (That is as deep in the south as you will ever find me.... :) )She will be continuing to CrossFit, receive regular chiropractic care, teach the Bonfire Health lifestyle to everyone she meets, and spend more time with her wonderful boyfriend who is stationed down there in the Navy! Please keep up with her adventures at
http://sarahtymann.blogspot.com/  (you are already here!  go you!)

And sunny California is calling Alexis’ name. After having dreamt about it for quite some time, she is taking the plunge and moving to the West Coast! Though her year is still taking shape, she plans to head to Santa Barbara, CA, to pursue some of her heart’s passions. She’ll continue to work closely with the Bonfire Health Team, writing content and promoting the Bonfire lifestyle, while working on her own Blog and getting other writing endeavors off the ground. She is grateful for the opportunity to experience a different part of the country, and equally grateful for all she’s held, and still holds, dear here on the North Shore. You can keep up with her on http://www.lifeinanote.wordpress.com/ (coming soon!).

This place is truly life-changing. WE have learned much, been inspired so deeply, and have grown more than words can say. We know that the Team here will continue to take great care of you – and we are confident that you will welcome the new team members the same way you so warmly welcomed us.

Thank you all for playing such huge roles in our lives!

Please come wish us Bon Voyage at Soma on Tuesday, Jan 3rd from 7-10 PM.
